It's Dog or Nothing - Living Large. Living Fluffy
Having multiple dogs is a great thing. The older dog can help teach the younger one how to behave and what actions are appropriate. Unfortunately, it can work the other way as well. The older dog can teach “bad behaviors” to the younger one. While this isn’t a bad behavior, it is definitely one that Mauja taught Atka!
When we first moved to Montana, my job was within walking distance. I would walk through the field behind our yard and up to our fence. If Nick was home, Mauja would be outside waiting. As soon as she saw me approaching, she would jump up on the fence to greet me. After awhile, this became a common occurrence. Any time a person or dog walked by, Mauja would jump up on the fence to bark or simply watch the action.
Until about three months ago, Atka had no interest in jumping on the fence. He’d simply bark from the center of the yard while Mauja carried on. Eventually, he decided to give this trick a try. We endured many weeks of him attempting to jump on the fence, only to fail. Normally, he’d hit about halfway up the fence and then slide back down. One day, he finally got it! Now we have two fluffy heads “pyring” over the fence to guard our yard
