DIY Dog Leash Holder

It's Dog or Nothing - Living Large. Living Fluffy

Can't find the dog leash holder you want? It's easier than you think to create your own! Here's how I created my own DIY dog leash holder.

DIY Dog Leash Holder

Finding a dog leash holder that fits my needs without breaking the bank is quite the challenge. I had contemplated making my own for awhile, but I didn’t think I had the skills to do it. If I had known it would be this easy, I would have done it long ago.

Here’s how I created a DIY dog leash holder.

What you need:

  • 2 in x 6 in (length depends on how big you want your leash holder to be) wood
  • Small wood pieces for holding everything together
  • Wood stain
  • Letters
  • Paint
  • Stickers
  • Hooks

How to do it:

I started by painting the letters so they could sit out and dry. I had my husband help me cut the wood pieces to the length I wanted – the planks are about three feet long. If you don’t have the ability to cut wood at home, don’t worry! If you purchase your wood at a store like Home Depot or Lowe’s, they will happily cut it for you.

Next, stain the main pieces of wood and the parts that will show of the smaller pieces with whatever color you like. If you don’t want to stain, you can also just use normal paint.

Once everything has dried, use the smaller pieces of wood to secure the two main pieces together. I just nailed everything together. Make sure you check the size of your nails before starting. I may or may not have used nails that were too long and went the whole way through and out the other side

I used a hot glue gun to attach the letters and avoid the noticeable marks that nails would leave. I chose dual hooks for each dog because they have a lot of gear!

Between the harnesses, collars, and leashes, they didn’t fit on a single hook. The hooks came with the screws needed, so they were very easy to attach with a power drill. Power tools are not my thing, so if I can do it, you can do it.

The stickers I purchased were from two different shops on Etsy: here’s the Great Pyrenees sticker and the paw print sticker.

The whole project (including drying time) only took a few hours. Easy peasy and I absolutely love it!
