It's Dog Or Nothing - Living Large. Living Fluffy.
We spend a lot of time training. I have a lot of fun working with the dogs and I think it’s a great way to bond. Hopefully, the fluffies will be ready to test for their Canine Good Citizen title soon.
Training a pyr is much different than training most other breeds of dogs.
The Great Pyrenees was bred to work independently. They have amazing instincts that help them guard sheep without any help from humans. These instincts make obedience training extremely difficult.I can almost hear the question “why?” when I ask Mauja for a sit. She’s not going to perform a task simply because I asked her to like most breeds. She needs a reason or to simply be in the mood. Usually, I have to give her a reason. Same goes for Atka.
Thankfully, a good treat usually does the trick.
I love treats that are already in bite size pieces (although the fluffies would argue that these are much smaller than bite size). We have bags of training treats around the house because if I don’t switch it up frequently, they’ll stop caring about the treat. Our cabinets are filled with different meat flavored treats, but we really needed to spice it up.
Fruitables makes a variety of bite sized treats pyrfect for training. We were given the opportunity to try the skinny minis, watermelon flavor. They really smell like watermelon!
No, I didn’t try them
The Fruitables treats are free of gluten, wheat, corn, soy, and artificial colors/flavors. They’re chewy, delicious-smelling, US made, and full of good ingredients. They’re pyrfect for a dog needing to lose a little extra fluff as well. Each treat comes in at only 2 1/2 calories! You can give your pup several without worrying about overdoing it.
Fruitables has several other flavors of skinny minis including pineapple bacon, grilled salmon, apple bacon, pumpkin mango, rotisserie chicken, and grilled bison. They also have lines of Greek Yogurt Crunchers, Jerky, and Crunchy Pumpkin Baked treats. There’s something for every palate!
Would you try Fruitables as a training treat? What’s your dog’s favorite?
