It's Dog Or Nothing - fur, slobber, and dirty floors
Recently, I was given the opportunity to try a few products from PetAlive by Native Remedies. PetAlive has a wide variety of homeopathic remedies for dogs, cats, horses, and small pets. Their list of products is really quite extensive.
I’m not a fan of drugging my dogs, or myself for that matter. I prefer to find a natural treatment when possible. As I scanned through the list of homeopathic treatments, I knew exactly what I was looking for: a calming agent for Mauja.
Mauja has had some anxiety issues since she was very young. We’re really not sure how they started as she has been very well-socialized. She went everywhere with us! Her anxiety started out as pretty minimal (being unsure in very novel places, like a hotel room) to her completely refusing to go into new places. When we try and take her to Petco, she whines and scrambles to the door to leave.
Over the past year, I have tried using desensitization techniques to help Mauja feel more comfortable in new situations. While we have made a little progress, she still absolutely refuses to go into Petco.
I knew these products weren’t going to be a cure-all; nothing works that way. I was hoping they would be enough to take the edge off so training could be beneficial. I decided to try two different calming remedies.
EaseSure
- This remedy is ideal for pets that need help with calming their brain and nervous system. EaseSure is a liquid that came with a dropper. It was very easy to mix it with water and administer or simply put on her food. This only includes natural, homeopathic ingredients.
PetCalm
- This remedy is ideal for highly strung pets. It helps to soothe trembling and fear when your pet is nervous. PetCalm comes in a convenient granule. You simply measure out the proper dosage and toss it in their mouth. Easy peasy! Once again, this only includes natural, homeopathic ingredients.
I started Mauja on the lowest dose so I could assess how it affected her. The great thing about homeopathic remedies is that it’s not easy to overdose like with traditional medication. I felt comfort in only giving her natural ingredients.
After a few days, I increased her dosage and decided to try a few tests. If you follow me on social media, you probably saw this picture.

She was still nervous, but no where close to her typical level. Mauja won’t eat treats when she’s nervous. Not even super high value treats, like chicken. We got her to accept a training treat. Only one, but that is a huge victory in my mind!
The two products were able to minimize her anxiety enough that we could actually accomplish training on the outing. We were able to walk through the store without her ripping my shoulder out of socket as she rushed to the exit. I even got her into a sit position! If you have been around anxious dogs, you know that they don’t want to go into any position that could slow their escape. Another huge victory for Mauja.
I plan to stock up on these two products and see if there are any others that I feel could help Mauja. I just know that if we can calm her brain enough for her to benefit from training, we can make great strides.
